rewind

Well, it is now the 21st July and if this was audio I’d put a little cliché sound effect here of tape winding back as a fair bit happened between the house sale and leaving OS. Nice little bit of Australianism there, OS. There is Australia and then there is everyone else, everywhere else somewhere over the ocean, the world divided into Australia and OS.

Anyway, the exchange of contracts was fairly eventless. I mean you would think they could do it with a little more ceremony, like, a scroll with flowing script delivered by a man on a horse, a few trumpets and a large envelope with the word ‘contact’ written boldly across the front, that kind of stuff. But no, a simple signature and that’s it.

It is then off to the snow. Family holidays! Those two words probably produce thousands of responses. Some would see it as an oxymoron! Family holidays can be a challenge. I was a little worried. Two sisters in one holiday. You know, it is that two’s a company thing. Anyway, we managed to keep it all together and the kids had a time of their life. The Queensland cousins took to the snow like snow geese and everyone was skiing on second day, at least all the children. Don’t you hate that!

It is great to do these things with kids and be part of their collective experience of childhood. Snow is like a fairly tale experience for kids, so other world, transported ‘into’ the snow dome.

After the snow Meagan and I head up to Queensland. My last stop before departure. Being now officially homeless Megan and I take refuge at brother Dan’s place. This was a great place to just chill out and wind down a little before leaving. Megan spent most of her time with other Queensland cousins and I seemed to spend a lot of time with Dan sitting on the top step. Dan likes a smoke and a yarn and he has a position at the top of the stairs where I am sure if you looked closely you would find a slightly smooth buffed area from many years of parking his butt there. It’s his step. Now I just couldn’t imagine him living in a ground level house. We trawled through a fair bit of history in those few days we were there and ten days passed quickly.
